For the second time in as many weeks, the World Wide Web site of Mississippi State University is receiving accolades for its design.
On Tuesday [Jan. 21], NetGuide Live named the university as one of its "Gold Sites."
In a letter to school officials--by electronic mail, of course--the online publication of Manhasset, N.Y.-based CMP Media Inc. said Mississippi State's presentation is "one of the best on the web." Company officials describe NetGuide Live as "a comprehensive daily guide to what's live, what's new and what's changing online."
The Mississippi State web site was designed last year by a team led by Bennet George, assistant director of the University Relations Office.
NetGuide screened more than 100,000 URLs (universal resource locators) and reviewed more than 50,000 sites. "Our Gold Award goes to only 15,000 of the web's best sites," CMP Media officials said.
Last week, Mississippi State's web design finished second in regional competition sponsored by a professional education advancement organization. Broward Community College of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., took first place in annual competition sponsored by District III of the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE).
CASE District III includes more than 500 schools, colleges and universities in the Southeastern United States.

In March, NetGuide Magazine Online, a companion electronic publication to NetGuide Live, will sponsor its first national awards ceremony. In addition to bringing Information Superhighway travelers together in one location, the ceremony at Los Angeles' El Rey Theater will recognize top Internet applications and technologies.
