Graduating minority high school students who have excelled in the classroom are being invited to Mississippi State Feb. 14 for the university's Minority Student Achievement Day.
"The Minority Student Achievement Program salutes the academic accomplishments of high school seniors from throughout the region," said Jimmy W. Abraham, associate dean of student services.
"Last year, we had more than 220 attend from Mississippi and the four surrounding states," he said. "This year, we are expecting even more to take part."
In addition to continuous campus tours and a mid-morning general assembly, the students will be special guests at a luncheon given by President Donald Zacharias.
Abraham said invitations have been mailed to seniors who scored well on the American College or Scholastic Aptitude tests. School counselors also were asked to nominate students with superior academic achievements.
"We want them to become familiar with our faculty, administrators and staff, as well as some of the currently enrolled students who may be their classmates next year," he said.
Registration for the day-long program begins at 9 a.m. in the Bost Extension Center lobby.
