Wide variety of Homecoming activities scheduled

A block party in downtown Starkville and tours of the recently renovated and expanded library are among the festivities planned for Mississippi State University's 1996 Homecoming.

The block party is scheduled on Nov. 1, the night before Mississippi State's 1:30 p.m. football game with Northeast Louisiana.

Homecoming Queen Kathryn Booth and the eight members of her court will be presented during halftime of the football game.

Tours of Mitchell Memorial Library, as well as various displays and exhibitions, are planned for Nov. 2. Other Homecoming Week highlights include:

Oct. 31--Tours and demonstrations at The Comprehensive Assistive Technology Center, 1-4 p.m.; Halloween Carnival, Amphitheater, 6:30 p.m.

Nov. 1--Football autograph party, 30 minutes prior to 6 p.m. pep rally, National Bank of Commerce Plaza, University Drive, Starkville; block party to follow.

Nov. 2--17th annual Run with the Big Dawgs registration, 7 a.m. Four-mile race begins at 8 a.m. at North Farm off U.S. Highway 82, with parking at the Crop Simulation Building. Cost is $10 for non-students; $5, students; Black Alumni Society registration, Colvard Union art lounge, 8 a.m., with keynote address by Joe Haynes, Greenville Public Schools superintendent, Colvard Union small auditorium, 9 a.m.; Meet the Bulldogs basketball scrimmage, Humphrey Coliseum, 9:30 a.m., with photo and autograph session to follow; Alumni Association Pre-game Open House, Butler-Williams Alumni Center, 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.; children's pre-game festivities, grounds between alumni center and Scott Field, 10 a.m., and photos with Bully 10:30-11:30 a.m.; Mitchell Memorial Library Open House, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.; College of Forest Resources building dedicated as Warren S. Thompson Hall, Tulley Auditorium, 10:30 a.m.; Homecoming Court Reception, Butler-Williams Center, 11:30 a.m.; Black Alumni Society Dance, Level III, Main Street, Starkville, 8 p.m.

Nov. 3--Black Alumni Society religious service featuring vocalist C. Althea Morris, Class of 1983, Chapel of Memories, 10 a.m.
