A Florida performer known for music he describes as "saltwater" is bringing his acoustic/folk program to Mississippi State University.
Del Suggs will perform at 7 p.m. Wednesday [Oct. 9] in a free public program in the Colvard Union art lounge. His appearance is sponsored by the Campus Activities Board.
A Tallahassee-based guitarist who has endorsement agreements with Ovation Guitars and Meridian-based Peavey Electronics, Suggs recently toured Japan to promote his new compact disc, "The Prime Meridian."
Another recent recording, "The Cascades Collection," is getting airplay in this country and in Europe. "Wooden Boat," an earlier album, soon will be re-released on CD.
Suggs describes his "saltwater" style as a "combination of acoustic rock, pop, blues, and folk music--with a sunburn." His first album, titled "Saltwater Music," was released 10 years ago.
In addition to eight feature albums, he has appeared on two public television concert specials.
A musician who enjoys live performances, he tours approximately 75 college and university campuses each year.
"People whose musical tastes stretch from Indigo Girls to Michelle Shocked to James Taylor all like my music," he said recently. "It's not heavy or depressing. I just have a point of view that people enjoy."
