More than 20 programs will be offered Sept. 15-19 as Mississippi State University and the Starkville community observe Preventing Sexual Assault Week.
The schedule of events includes speakers, displays and video presentations. Most programs will be held on the Mississippi State campus.
Among featured speakers will be Dean of Students Cathryn Goree of Virginia Tech University, Dr. Linda Chidester of the Mantachie Clinic and retired Lt. Jim Bullard of the Memphis Police Department.
Goree, a Mississippi State graduate and former director of the university's Center for Alcohol and Drug Education, leads a 10 a.m. program Sept. 16 in the Union Small Auditorium. Her topic will be "The Violence Against Women Act: Civil Right or Constitutional Wrong?"
Chidester, medical director of the Itawamba County clinic and a childhood sexual abuse authority, will speak at 2 p.m. on the 17th in the Union Small Auditorium. Her topic: "Surviving Childhood Sexual Abuse: The Victim's Perspective."
Bullard, a much-sought-after speaker on self-protection techniques, will address a noon brown-bag lunch on the 18th, also in the Union Small Auditorium. He will repeat the program at 7 p.m. that day in Lee Hall Auditorium. His topic: "Changing Attitudes in Changing Times."
Preventing Sexual Assault Week is sponsored by two dozen university and community offices, programs and businesses.
