About this event
Sponsored by Mississippi State's Department of Anthropology and Middle Eastern Cultures in celebration of Mississippi Archaeology Month, this brown bag lecture will be given by Stephen Carmody, a post-doctoral fellow at The University of South and the Sewanee Environmental Institute. Carmody's research has involved the analysis of prehistoric plant remains from archaeological sites located in northern Alabama and central Tennessee. His results indicate how decisions made thousands of years ago have shaped modern societies and how indigenous agricultural systems provide sustainable, local-level alternatives to the large-scale mono-crop systems dominant today.
