About this event
It is a fact that suicide claims the lives of 1100 college students a year. Through outreach programming efforts, Student Counseling Services, Active Minds, and the Center for America\'s Veterans hope to give a voice to those directly and indirectly impacted by suicide by shedding light on a subject that is becoming more and more familiar on university campuses across the nation. As part of the program, these groups have collected and continue to collect backpacks and personal stories in memory or in honor of loved ones impacted by suicide until April 9, 2010. Student Counseling Services, along with Active Minds and the Center for American\'s Veterans, will be sponsoring Send Silence Packing, a program and exhibit dedicated to suicide prevention and education, on April 14, 2010. The program will begin with an exhibit on the Drill Field from 10am-2pm and a formal program on the Union Plaza steps from noon until 1:00 p.m. (Rain location: Fowlkes Auditorium in the Colvard Student Union). If you wish to donate backpacks and stories in memory or in honor of someone, please contact Student Counseling Services at 662-325-2091.
